How To Create Your Signature Program

If you want to continue growing your business and impact more people with your work, you’ll need to make time on your calendar to create your signature program and the corresponding marketing and sales plan for it.
Why you aren't making time to create your signature program
You might think you aren’t making time to create it because you’re fully booked and too busy, but what’s really stopping you is fear of failure and fear of changing your business model from something that’s already working to something that’s unknown if it’ll work.
Feeling that way is common, but you don’t have to fight your fear or let it stop you from making this happen.
Instead, you can take action to create your signature program and allow the fear to simply be there. You can allow it to come along for the ride.
Getting support from your friends, family members, colleagues, peers, and someone who has done this sort of thing before (a coach like me!) will help you.
Let’s talk this through a little more though, because fear can feel scary and uncomfortable. Your natural reaction will be to run from it or avoid it at all costs. Allowing it to come along for the ride isn’t easy.
Reduce the grip fear has on you and your business
So, let’s start with this…at its basic level, fear is just an emotion. One of MANY we have. And emotions are just part of being a human being.
Thinking about fear this way will help reduce the heaviness you may feel when you think about it.
Most of us, as we grow up, are taught (directly or indirectly) that negative emotions are bad. We are taught to avoid those types of emotions.
Fear is a negative emotion to most people, therefore most people are taught to avoid fear.
So, we can have a little compassion for you and everyone else in the world who doesn’t want to feel it.
But the truth is…if you continue to avoid the fear in your business and you continue to tell yourself you don’t have time to create your signature program, you won’t create it and you will continue feeling the overwhelm of being fully booked with no time.
So, how do you take action and allow the fear to be there?
It can be tricky, but it’s totally doable.
The first step towards taking action when you feel fear of failure
Start by figuring out what you’re afraid of.
Are you afraid of doing something new? (Remember when you first learned to ride a bike? That was something new and that was scary! Creating your signature program is something new you’ve never done before and is scary too).
Are you afraid of creating a program that people won’t like or want? (Remember what it felt like in grade school to want to be liked by other kids? This is just like that! Introducing your signature program to the world, after you create it, may set you up for rejection. And no one likes to feel rejection).
Are you afraid of not being able to sell it? (What you’re doing now is working. You’ve figured out how to sell your current offer. You’re fully booked! Of course you don’t feel certain you can sell a new offer you’ve never sold before).
Start by figuring out EXACTLY what you’re afraid of.
Chances are…you feel afraid of ALL of those things. And that’s ok.
Doing something new is scary. Creating a program that people won’t like or want is disappointing. Not being able to sell your program is not cool either. This is all true, which is why it’s so important to get clear on exactly what your fears are AND validate them.
The second step towards taking action when you feel fear of failure
After you figure out exactly what you're afraid of, things won’t feel as scary anymore and you start to open your mind to thinking about the possibilities.
Maybe you say to yourself, “Ok, yea, all of those things wouldn't feel good. They would feel terrible! But I don’t feel great already right now, because I’m not doing what I really want to do. I’m stopping myself. I’m stuck. I wonder what might happen if I do figure out how to create my signature program? What might happen if I create a program people want and like? What might happen if I can figure out how to sell it just as well as I’m selling my current offer?”
Let's normalize the fear you feel
Most likely you will still feel the fear, it doesn’t really go away in situations like this where you’re doing big things and making big changes, but figuring out exactly what is making you feel afraid, validating those things, and opening up your mind to the possibilities - will help you take action to build the thing and introduce it to the world.
Getting support from your friends, family members, colleagues, peers, and someone who has done this sort of thing before will help you.
Get the support you need
This is one of the main things I help online service-based business owners (coaches, consultants, copywriters, graphic designers, other experts) do so they can go from fully booked and totally fearful of changing anything, to starting to take action and allowing the fear, to completing their signature program and its corresponding marketing and sales plan and introducing it to their audience.
We also work on all the other emotions that will come along for the ride as you create your signature program - doubt, uncertainty, anxiety, and more.
