Preparing Your Business To Hire A Virtual Assistant

If you want to hire a Virtual Assistant (VA) to help you in your business, listen to this podcast episode first. There’s a few things I recommend you do, which will either change your mind about hiring a VA or help you prepare your business and set your new VA up for success.

The process of hiring someone to help you in your business and getting them trained to do so is a sign of business growth and it can be a positive thing. Let this episode guide you.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Before you hire a VA, you’ll want to simplify your business first (you’ll want to simplify your marketing, sales, product or service, client delivery, and operations) because simplifying may mean you don’t need to hire a VA
  • After you simplify your business, decide whether or not you want to hire a VA
  • If you do want to hire a VA, the next step is to create a list of tasks you’d want your new team member to do (you’ll want to create a list of tasks you’d want a VA to do when it comes to your marketing, sales, product or service, client delivery, and operations)
  • Turn your list of tasks into a checklist or casual job description
  • Create a simple, yet detailed training video for each item on your checklist or casual job description (5-10 minutes per video maximum or break it up into multiple videos if it’s longer than 10 minutes)
  • Save everything in one folder on Google Drive, Dropbox, or whatever you use
  • Create an email address, if necessary, for your VA to use if they’ll be doing customer service or contacting your customers in any way
  • Create a Google Doc with all the things your VA will have access to, including logins and passwords, so you can reference it for onboarding and offboarding
  • Set your expectations
  • How to find, interview, and hire a VA for your business
  • Why it's important to create a communication plan for you and your VA
  • Treat your VA with respect and give them constructive feedback as needed
  • If it isn’t working out, treat your VA with respect in the exit conversation and afterwards
